ストーリーを楽しみながら、中学校で学ぶ文法や英語表現をしっかり身につけることをテーマにしたラジオ番組です。
あらすじ
ある日のこと。公園のベンチで日記を書いていたニコは、だれかに話しかけられました。
声の主はなんとネズミ！ ネズミは「ぼくはカール」と名乗ります。
英語で会話を続けるふたりでしたが、カールは話をさえぎって「行かなきゃ！」と走っていきます。
追ううちに、自分の見知らぬ森のなかに立っていることに気づいたニコ。
実は、その森は英語を話す不思議な世界「ファーウッド・フォレスト」だったのです。

Carl: I don't know. It wasn't in the forest this morning. I looked.
Nico: That's impossible.
Carl: I'm sorry, Nico. But we can look again tomorrow.
Nico: Okay. Tomorrow. Promise?
Carl: I promise.
Wednesday's story
Carl: We looked everywhere. It isn't here.
Nico: Was the door in this area? Are you sure?
Carl: I'm sure.
Nico: Oh, no. This is terrible.
Carl: Wait. Maybe it didn't disappear. Maybe it moved.
Nico: Moved?
Carl: Yeah! Let's search the whole city. We can find it together.
Nico: Okay.
Thursday's story
Carl: Let's see. It was right here. Yes.
Nico: What was here?
Carl: The door to America.
Nico: What? When did you go to America?
Carl: Two years ago.
Nico: Carl, America is in my world.
Carl: Oh! So, we have many doors to your world.
Nico: That's good. I can go home someday.

Monday's key points

be動詞の過去形は、主語によって was (am, is の過去形) と were (are の過去形) を使い分けます。単数や I のときは was、複数や you のときは were です。
練習フレーズ
- My father and I were home last weekend.
- 父と私は先週末家にいました。
Tuesday's key points
- It wasn't in the forest this morning.
- それは今朝森の中にありませんでした。
be動詞の過去形の否定文は、was や were の後ろに not を置きます。短縮形の形であるwasn'tや weren'tも使えるように復習していきましょう。
練習フレーズ
- I wasn't free this week.
- 私は今週暇ではありませんでした。
Wednesday's key points
- Was the door in this area?
- 扉はこの辺りにありましたか？
be動詞の過去形の疑問文は、Was や Were を文の最初に置きます。
答えるときは Yes, (主語) was/were. や No, (主語) wasn't/weren't. となります。
練習フレーズ
- Were you in Gunma last week?
- あなたは先週群馬にいたのですか？
Thursday's key points
- When did you go to America?
- あなたはいつアメリカへ行ったのですか？
- Two years ago.
- 2年前です。
「いつ～しましたか？」と過去のことについて尋ねるときは、疑問詞 When を文の最初に置き、その後ろに did + 主語 + 動詞の原形 の形を続けます。
練習フレーズ
- When was your brother's birthday?
- あなたのお兄さんの誕生日はいつでしたか？
今日のまとめ
今週はbe動詞の過去形 (was, were) の肯定文・否定文・疑問文や、疑問詞 when を使った過去の質問の仕方を復習しました。
また、Mr. Honda's Cornerでは不規則動詞の過去形をたくさん練習しましたね。
最後の「Speak out!」では、5月の「できるようになること」である「過去のことを話そう」に挑戦しました。
